The wrench is used to tighten the scaler tip manually. The torque wrench is essential to ensure scaler tips are attached to the handpiece at the correct torque. The wrench is a torque-controlled instrument as it ensures an optimal screwing force, without exerting too much force when screwing manually the US tip to the handpiece. Overtorquing the tip will damage the threads of both the tip and the handpiece, too little torque and scaler tip will not work correctly.
