Additional Description
"This kit is used for the in vitro quantitative determination of cystatin C (Cys-C) in human serum, which is mainly used as an indicator of the glomerular filtration rate. Cys-C, also known as gamma trace and post-gamma-globulin, is a cysteine protease inhibitor. This non-glycosylated basic protein is widely found in nucleated cells of various tissues and body fluids and has a low relative molecular mass of 13.3×103, consisting of 120 amino acid residues. Cys-C can be produced by all nucleated cells of the organism at a constant rate. Cys-C concentration is not affected by external factors, and its only metabolic pathway is excretion through the kidneys. It can freely pass through the glomerular filtration membrane and get completely reabsorbed and decomposed by the proximal convoluted tubule. The kidney tubules do not secrete Cys-C. Therefore, Cys-C can accurately and sensitively reflect changes in the glomerular filtration rate and serve as an ideal endogenous indicator of the glomerular filtration rate."
