PRP is obtained from a sample of the patient's blood taken at the time of treatment. A 30 cc venous blood sample will produce 3 to 5 cc of PRP, depending on an individual's baseline platelet count, the device used and the technique employed. The blood sample is drawn with the addition of an anticoagulant, such as dextrose citrate A, to prevent platelet activation prior to use.
