"Eosin Alcoholic stain is the most widely used staining method in histology. H&E is a combination staining. In the first step, the nuclei are stained with a hematoxylin solution, which acquire a blue, dark violet to black coloring. The second step is the counter-staining with a xanthene dye (eosin yellowish), which stains the cytoplasm, collagen, keratin and erythrocytes in red."
