Additional Description
This kit is used for in vitro quantitative detection of C-peptide (C-P) in human serum, plasma and (or) urine. C-peptide (C-P), also known as connecting peptide, is secreted by pancreatic beta cells, and it shares a common precursor with insulin, proinsulin. Proinsulin is split into 1 molecule of insulin and 1 molecule of C-P, so the molar amount of C-P and self-insulin is the same. Because C-P is not easily degraded by the liver, the measurement of C-P is the measurement of insulin content, which can accurately reflect the function of islet cells. During the oral glucose tolerance test, blood can be drawn to measure the serum C-P level 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours after fasting blood glucose load. The C-P level of normal people increased to more than 3 times the basal level after 60 minutes of glucose intake. The level of C-P in type 1 diabetes is extremely low, and the postprandial increase in C-P in patients with islet dysfunction is often less than 3-fold. For patients receiving insulin therapy, auto-islet function cannot be evaluated by measuring insulin levels in blood, but auto-islet β-cell function can be evaluated by measuring C-P levels.
