Additional Description
Formaldehyde fixation alters or totally destroys the immunoreactivity of many antigens and epitopes. The negative effect of formaldehyde fixation can be successfully reversed for some markers with enzymatic digestion, while with others it does not function properly. The pepsin digestion of tissue sections previously dewaxed and hydrated with the enzyme, has been found to recover the immunoreactivity of many antigens in fixed tissues. Pepsin (for antigen retrieval) is supplied as a single ready-to-use reagent to perform immunohistochemically techniques manually on tissue sections fixed in buffered formalin and embedded in paraffin.
