Additional Description
This kit is used for in vitro quantitative detection of total L homocysteine (HCY) in human serum and plasma samples. Homocysteine (HCY) is a sulfur-containing amino acid in human body. It is an important intermediate product in the metabolism of methionine and cysteine. It itself does not participate in protein synthesis. Homocysteine is the intermediate metabolite of methionine. It is formed after methionine is methylated in the body. There are two ways. One is that HCY can generate cysteine under the catalysis of cysteine thioether condensation enzyme (CBS) and cysteine thioether enzyme, which requires the participation of vitamin B6 or the oxidation and combination of sulfhydryl groups to produce homocysteine, In addition, HCY can re-methylate and re-synthesize methionine with the assistance of folic acid and vitamin B12. This process requires the catalysis of methionine synthase (MS), and N5 methyltetrahydrofolate must be used as the donor of methyl, which is produced by tetrahydrofolate catalyzed by 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). HCY, as an independent cardiovascular risk indicator, has been widely accepted as another risk factor besides hyperlipidemia, smoking and diabetes.
