Hydrocolloid blister plaster consists of a semipermeable polyurethane film coated with hydrocolloid containing carboxy-methylcellulose (CMC) as the principal absorbent and gel forming agent. PU film is permeable to water vapour but impermeable to exudate and microorganisms. In the presence of exudate, the CMC absorbs liquid and swells to form a cohesive gel that does not tend to disintegrate or leave residues in the wound bed
