Additional Description
Scissors is an instrument used for blunt as well as sharp dissection and also for cutting various structures. For blunt dissection, the scissor is introduced with its blade closed. Alternatively opening and closing the blades of the scissor, changing its direction each time, can bring about the dissection. Scissors are usually used for blunt dissection around sheathed structure e.g. for dissecting out hernia sac from the spermatic cord. It can also be used for blunt dissection of structure with lots of loose connecting tissues. As a sharp dissector, scissors is usually used in place of knives and scalps e.g. during Herniorrhaphy for cutting open the hernia sac. A scissor however should never be used for extending a skin incision. For incising skin only scalpels are used.
