A periodontal scaler is a dental scaling tool thatโs used in the prophylactic and periodontal care of teeth including scaling and root planning. Its working ends come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they always narrow at the tip to narrow access embrasure spaces between teeth. Periodontal scalers are used to remove hardened plaque, calculus, and tarter that is built up between on teeth and under the gums. It is the instrument of choice for subgingival calculus removal.
