Additional Description

This kit is suitable for in vitro quantitative detection of the concentration of Calcitonin (CT) in human serum samples. It is mainly used for the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia. Calcitonin is secreted by thyroid parafollicular cells or "C" cells, also known as thyroid calcitonin. In addition, the thymus also has the function of secreting calcitonin. The main function of calcitonin is to reduce blood calcium. Its main target organ is bone tissue, which can weaken the activity of osteoclasts and increase the activity of osteoblasts, so as to weaken the osteolytic process, enhance the osteogenic process, reduce the calcium salt released by bone tissue, and increase the calcium salt deposition, so the blood calcium decreases. This effect has special significance in children. Calcitonin also acts on the kidney and inhibits the reabsorption of calcium, phosphorus, sodium and chlorine by renal tubules. The synthesis and secretion of calcitonin are controlled by blood calcium concentration. In addition, glucagon, gastrointestinal hormone and norepinephrine can also promote calcitonin secretion. Calcitonin and parathyroid hormone jointly regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism. The CT of patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma will increase. Because the half-life of calcitonin is short, calcitonin can be used as an important marker for the diagnosis of thyroid tumors, the observation of clinical efficacy, and the indication of tumor residue or recurrence
